The vision of electric aviation is accompanied by a variety of novel possibilities to provide the wing with new and diverse functionalities. New concept studies are designing and evaluating electric aircraft that are lighter and significantly lower in emissions than their predecessors. Even emission-free flying is in the focus. There are configurations with distributed propulsion or the horizontal stabilisers located in the front and the vertical tail located at the wing tips. The business area “Wing” picks up the vision of emission-free mobility and supports the development of intelligent lightweight systems of tomorrow. It conducts numerous research projects that investigate the potential of the new wing design and develop the optimal wing for the aircraft of the future.
The range of topics extends from preliminary design tools for the rapid design of modern wings
experimental investigations on individual components of current wing structures.
